Today is International Women’s Day, a day to celebrate women’s achievements and campaign for greater equality. This year, the focus is on challenging inequality and bias, a call for each and every one of us to stand up and contribute to a fair and inclusive society.
Here in Brighton and Hove, local organisation, Survivors Network stands alongside women every day of the year, offering support and advice to those who have experienced sexual violence and assault. Last year alone, over 1600 people accessed their services, which range from practical assistance to therapeutic care, including homeopathic treatment.
Homeopathy is a safe and natural system of medicine that can support women after a traumatic experience. It gently stimulates the body’s own healing mechanism and can help relieve some of the physical and emotional effects commonly experienced after assault.
The in-house homeopath at Survivors Network is Tara Lavelle, one of a team of homeopaths working with Homeopathy in the Sussex Community (HISC). Survivors attend monthly sessions with Tara who, after carrying out an in-depth consultation, prescribes remedies carefully selected for each unique individual.
Tara has a long history of working with survivors and joined the HISC team in 2018. She now runs a clinic at Survivors Network, supporting nine women each month. Bearing witness to the devastating aftermath of sexual trauma, she frequently helps with issues such as anxiety, panic attacks, ME, depression and fibromyalgia. But the results speak for themselves. One survivor says:
“I have been receiving homeopathy with Tara once a month. When I first visited, I was in a deep state of shock, trauma and fear. With each visit, Tara has helped me with her remedies and compassionate, kind and professional advice and help. I'm so grateful for the treatment, it is helping me to change my life in so many ways.” (Anon)
